Instructions: Aerobika®
This device improves your breathing by helping to clear secretions (mucus) that build up in your bronchial tubes. Your health care provider will determine the level of resistance needed to produce effective vibrations. Follow the steps below:
- Sit in a comfortable position with your back straight./li>
- Make sure the device is clean and undamaged and that the resistance indicator is set as prescribed by your health care provider.
- Put the mouthpiece in your mouth and tightly close your lips around it.
- Make sure your hand isn't blocking the hole on the other side of the device (the exhalation path).
- Take a deep breath through your mouth, but do not fill your lungs all the way. Hold the breath for 2 to 3 seconds.
- Exhale actively (but not forcefully) through the device. If the resistance indicator is set correctly, exhalation should last 3–4 times longer than inhalation.
-
To maximize the effectiveness of the treatment:
- Do not puff out your cheeks. They should remain flat and firm throughout the treatment.
- Keep your lips closed tightly around the mouthpiece.
- Try to resist the urge to cough until the treatment is complete.
- Continue taking deep breaths and long exhalations for 10–20 breaths
- Set the device aside after 10 to 20 breaths.
-
Use an airway clearance technique. There are several possible airway clearance techniques. Use the technique that was taught to you by your health care provider, such as the following:
- Take a deep breath.
- Contract your stomach muscles and exhale in 3 short bursts, like saying ”Ha, Ha, Ha” or fogging up a mirror. This will help bring the mucus up. Repeat 3 times.
- Then cough hard to bring the mucus up and out. Don't swallow it.
- Put the mouthpiece back in your mouth and repeat the steps listed above: 10 to 20 breaths using the device, followed by the airway clearance technique.
- The entire procedure should take 10 to 20 minutes.
Stop using the device and contact your health care provider if you experience dizziness or discomfort during treatment. The device must be cleaned daily and disinfected regularly. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning and disinfection.
