Before going for a medical examination or test
There are several things to consider before going for a clinical examination. Occasionally, our nerves get the better of us and we overlook certain steps that are essential to the preparation process. That being said, we have drawn up a list of recommendations to ensure that the preparation process and the examination itself are as smooth and worry-free as possible. Although these recommendations are quite general, they apply to most clinical tests prescribed by healthcare professionals.
A few days before the test
- Read the preparation protocol to find out what medications to take, whether there are dietary requirements, the location of the test, etc.
- Purchase all the products needed to prepare for the test.
- Arrange for someone to accompany you if you deem it appropriate.
- If you have any questions or need clarification, do not hesitate to call the centre where you will be undergoing your test.
Documents to bring
When going for a medical examination, it is imperative that you have certain documents with you. Forgetting these documents can, on occasion, lead to the cancellation of your procedure. It is therefore important to make sure that you have all the required documents.
- Valid hospital card
- Public or private health insurance card
- Referral from your healthcare professional
- Prior results
- Comprehensive list of medications, whether prescription, over-the-counter or natural health products, as well as a list of drug allergies.
